Why is it so bloody hard to lose weight?

Beat the Scale

I bet some of you have asked yourself this question before. Some people ask and don't really try to do anything about it but some of you really try. For those “Why is it so hard to lose weight?” can become such a huge source of frustration and demotivation. Especially when you’re striving to reach a particular goal and you're dedicated to getting there. Well you’re not alone. There are many of us out there. I am, quite honestly, experiencing the same thing. Urg...

Pickle juice and muscle soreness???

For as long as I can remember, those that are in the know have been drinking pickle juice after they workout. Sounds strange huh. Finishing a killer workout or an intense game and sitting down to a few pickles and some brine. I use to think it was just an excuse to hit the pub but modern research seems to agree with these witch doctors of sports medicine.

Times "Why Exercise Won't Make you Thin" put in Question

John Cloud's recent Times cover story article on exercise has certainly gotten a lot of attention. It makes the case for exercise NOT contributing to weight loss in any significant way. Go figure. All of us preaching that a consistent regimen of exercise with proper eating habits lead to improved weight management and improved overall health all for naught...

No Gym Required™ Tips & Tricks to Improve Eating Habits

It's no secret that if you're looking to lose weight or improve your overall health, the biggest thing you can do is eat properly. Eating plays such a huge role that a proper and healthy diet has been proven to drastically improve overall health and can severely improve or reverse the effects of certain diseases like diabetes!

There is a lesson there for us all.

PRINCIPLE 1: GET FRESH, GO WILD: EAT NATURAL AND ORGANIC

Extract from NO GYM REQUIRED: UNLEASH YOUR INNER ROCK STAR

Eat natural and organic foods always. This is fundamental to health and therefore fitness, and I cannot stress enough how important this is. Processed foods and those with preservatives are laden with hidden sugars and fats, many unknown to nature. Even meats and so-called natural produce like fruits and vegetables are filled with antibiotics and pesticides, which are proven toxins. Your body’s food-processing mechanism is just not designed to handle them.

Have you noticed the proliferation of health problems from weird new allergies to rampant obesity and the hormonal-related cancers in women that are just a generation old? These new materials are adversely affecting our bodies, and we keep poisoning ourselves with them because we have come to believe they are normal. They are not meant to enter our bodies, and when they do, they sit in our system and clog it up with junk. They not only have no redeeming qualities, but, worse yet, they make us sick and fat. This is why I follow this “fresh from the ground up” principle. My preference is for things grown in the ground and that subsist close to land, whether that’s fresh vegetables and fruit, grass-fed beef, wild (not farmed) fish, or free-range chicken. And opt for organic whenever possible. Yes, it’s more expensive, but I think we Rock Stars know that our health is worth the investment. And this is a commandment: Know thy food sources whenever possible.

Snack Ideas #1

Filed under:

Last post (Quick Eating Tips #1) we advised bringing along some snacks to help control appetite and make sure you maintain good eating habits. Some of you were interested in snack ideas so we will start providing regular ideas that are fun, easy to prepare, low in calories, and good for you.

Freeze your treat!

Frozen food makes a great snack because it stays fresh, maintains its flavour, and takes longer to eat.

Will Thanksgiving ruin your diet?

Filed under:

Lets hope not! Here are a quick few things to help you out (hopefully).

Be sure to eat a good breakfast and have some healthy snacks before you even get to Thanksgiving dinner. This will help you avoid overeating all that great food - you won't arrive famished.

Sneak in a quick workout before. This will help boost your metabolism and make you less likely to want to derail from all the hard work you're doing.

Be mindful of the guilt you'll feel after gorging! I always do:)

Other than that, have a great U.S. Thanksgiving!

Eating Quick Tip #1

Filed under:

Make yourself a snack before leaving home if you know you'll be out for more than 2-3 hours.

Why?
1) You can portion control and know you're going to eat well.
2) You'll know you have something to snack on = peace of mind ["can't wait to have my snack!"]
3) You'll save some $$$ - something we all need right now!
4) You won't be overly hungry later in the day = won't have the urge to over-eat at your next meal.
