How important is to keep a "positive attitude" in life and in Personal Training?

How you project yourself to others is crucial to the success or failure of your business...period. As a former business professional for over 20 years and now as the owner of my own Personal Training business, the one thing that I always try to project to my customers (or to any other person I meet) is.....a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. Why? Because people are very perceptive these days and they can spot a negative attitude a mile away. That attitude (combined with other non-attractive characteristics) can only lead to one thing....FAILURE. And who needs that!

Fitness Tip #1....proper technique is a "MUST" when lifting weights.

I have been to many gyms in my lifetime, and the one thing that never fails to astonish me is the lack of attention or education that gym members get when it comes to proper technique. In my mind, if the people running the organization do not make it a priority to teach their clients how to use the equipment properly, then the client should demand their money back and never return to that place"ever"again. The risks that can occur in an untrained or unsupervised person are high and the result could do you more "harm" than "good".

Can lifting weights alone help you burn those extra pounds? I don't think so.....

I received an interesting call the other day from a husband who really wanted to help his wife get back into shape. As I patiently awaited for the opportunity to ask him some general questions, he pointed out to me three specific details about his spouse: A) That she needed to lose at least 70 lbs. B) That all she really needed was the use of some dumbbells and C) She has never exercised before. Also, pointed out to me that he was very tight with his budget and assumed that a few sessions should do the trick for her.

The greatest joy I get from my being a personal trainer is helping my client's achieve their fitness goal(s). I learned from many people over the years( including my own family) that motivation is a key component in our daily lives. We all need to be motivated in some form or fashion to get what we want or desire. But why is it so difficult sometimes to get ourselves motivated to achieve our fitness goals? Making a commitment to exercise is probably one of the hardest things to do for an individual....but why? With all of the documented research and studies done on the benefits of exercise, the majority of the population "still" does not maintain a regular exercise regimen. Here are a few popular "reasons" I have heard during my experience as a trainer:

a) No time during the day.
b) No extra money available.
c) Lack of motivation.
d) No immediate results.
e) Too hard and complicated.

What can you do in this "Economy" to stay healthy?

We are all affected by the state of this economy...so what can you do to remain healthy and not spend a lot of money? Here a few things you can do:

A. Getting your heart pumping does not require any equipment at all. You can jog in your neighborhood, go to your local park or (in bad weather) you can use your indoor staircase...just make sure you check with your doctor before begining any running program.

B. Bands are a great way to get a good workout without investing a lot of money in bulky expensive equipment. Imagination here is the key.
