We recently got a few questions from an NGR Shoe customer we thought we should share with everyone. Thanks for the questions: keep them coming!
1) Doesn't a person get used to the weighted shoe, and then it doesn't become as effective? It's like going to the gym every day, doing the same weighted activity and the body eventually adapts. One has to increase to become stronger-is there an increased sole weight? What is the weight for the inner sole (there is another weighted shoe from miyata that has a 3 pound weight)?
Yes, your body will get use to the weights in the shoes IF you keep doing the same thing. Our bodies are really amazing that way: If we do any activity repeatedly, even weight train intensively, our bodies get use to it and we plateau. This is why Jennifer Cohen, our President and CEO, always suggest changing things up and trying new routines. Rather than increase the weight, try using them in different ways! That is also why when you buy our NGR Shoes we give you the change to buy Jennifer’s book No Gym Required: Unleash your inner Rock Star for only $10 (normally $19.95 US / $21.95 CAD). This book is full of tips, tricks, and exercises you can do in combination with you NGR Shoes to keep it fun and new, and keep getting results. It also has a menu program, exercise program, and a really great playlist of workout tunes! Although some competitive shoes do offer heavier weights, we find that the balance of safety and effectiveness is best with our shoes. That is why we maintain a 1.5-2 lbs weight per shoe and would rather help you get more use out of them. Also remember that our shoes have the convenience of being interchangeable so you can take the weights out and wear our shoes as regular sneakers. That’s like two shoes in one!
2) Is the shoe negative balanced like the earth shoe? I was just wondering if its similar technology. To be honest, I'm torn between the Earth Shoe (which I have had before) and the technology of the NGR which impresses me. I understand my body will adapt to both kinds of shoes, so I'm looking for a real difference before I make my purchase (and the NGRs are way more expensive as well, so I want to buy the best shoe in this case). I hope you can help me.
Our shoes do not use negative heel technology. Our technology involves distributing weight evenly along the sole of your foot, absorbing the maximum of the impact of the weighted platform to avoid injury, and offering the convenience of two shoes in one. Although NGR Shoes are a little more expensive than your typical negative heel shoe (like Earth shoes), with our shoes you get two shoes in one, the opportunity to a larger range of exercises using the weights (leg lifts, super-stairs, floor leg exercises, and hundreds more), and you get a great looking shoe! We also offer the blog where we will be uploading more exercises you can do with your shoes as well as general advice, tips, and tricks to get in shape.
Thanks again for taking the time to come to us with your question. I really think the NGR Shoe is the best wellness shoe out there and, when you think about all the other added values we are offering our customer like the book and web-blog, a great deal.
